Northbound Notes

A little further, a little slower.

Notes on getting outside, taking the quiet road and leaving room for an unplanned stop.

Following the water

A canal path makes a good starting point when the map feels too busy. Choose a direction, keep the water on one side and turn back when the light begins to change.

For a short afternoon ride, comfort matters more than distance. A warm layer, something to drink and a familiar way home are usually enough.

Room for a slower day

Some days are better for walking than riding. Taking a shorter route leaves time to notice the trees, stop at a bench and enjoy the small details that disappear at speed.

A paper notebook is useful for remembering a good turn, a sheltered spot or an idea for another weekend.

What comes along

A bottle of water, a compact rain layer, a small snack and a charged phone. For a bicycle ride, add working lights, a spare tube and the tools you know how to use.

Check the weather before leaving and keep the route flexible. The best kit is the kit that makes it easier to head out again.

About this notebook

Northbound Notes is a small collection of ideas about everyday adventures: walking, cycling and travelling with less. No race times and no list of places to tick off. Just a reason to spend another afternoon outside.
